The course provides many opportunities for international students to participate in after-school and weekend activities to help them make new friends and practice English in an unstructured environment. International Potluck and Talent Show Every quarter, students show their talent in cooking, acting, singing, and dancing at our potluck party. They prepare and bring food from their native country and have lunch together. Then the show begins: class skits, game shows, musical numbers, dances, and songs are performed by our amazingly talented students (and sometimes teachers, too!). Wonderful opportunities to share your culture, have fun, and practice English at the same time. Class Field Trips In addition to in-class study, many of our classes go on field trips to various points of interest around Los Angeles. Field trip locations might include the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Criminal Courthouse, local high schools, and local businesses. These trips take place during class time to enrich your academic course of study and provide real-life contact with native speakers as well as a closer look at the community and culture of Los Angeles. Culture and Language Exchange Students can be matched with full-time day students at UCLA studying foreign languages or with English-speaking adults in the local community for free conversation exchanges. Students meet during their free time for one to two class sessions per week to practice conversation in English for an equal amount of conversation in the student's native language. As a result, students get extra, free conversation practice in English while the UCLA students get foreign Local Tours The team works closely with California Tours, an independent tour company, which schedules tours of local attractions and events in the Los Angeles area such as Hollywood, the Getty Museum, Disneyland, world champion Los Angeles Lakers basketball games, and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball games. They can also plan excursions to other California and Southwest destinations such as the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Students can also join some CAMPUS CLUBS |
